Client Notice
I am writing to share with you an exciting new development for my family but a difficult personal decision for me. In late summer of 2010, my spouse Heather was offered an opportunity to work with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) on behalf of the Government of Canada. It is a two-year posting at the OECD, which is located in Paris, France. We thought this would be a fantastic opportunity for Maggie, Lauren and JP to experience life in Europe and the opportunity to attend school in France for two years. This is also a great opportunity for Heather and her career. With a tight time frame of a few weeks we managed to get things organized here in Ottawa to move them to Paris for the first of September.

We planned that I would remain in Ottawa and continue to work with my clients and I would be in Ottawa three weeks and then visit my family for a week or two and then be back for three weeks. Today’s technology allows a lot of flexibility, however, since we started this in September we realized that over the next two years that I would be spending even more time apart from my family than we originally planned.

It is with great difficulty that I inform you I have decided to step away from my practice and ScotiaMcleod to join my family in Paris. I’m really excited about the opportunity to live in Paris for the next two years and enjoy this experience with my family.

I have been working with my branch manager, Tim Wardrop, to choose the advisor in our office who would be the best fit for my clients and who would be able to continue the same level of service they have come to appreciate. Choosing the right person was not difficult and I am pleased to say that Grant MacLeod is the advisor we have selected. During this period you can be reached myself and Grant by emailing him at  This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or 613-782-6792.

These changes will take place on the 1st of February, however, I will continue to support Grant beyond this date to ensure we have a smooth transition.

This difficult decision comes with mixed emotions, but it is also exciting to be able to share this experience with my family. I would like to thank you for your confidence and support. It has been a real privilege to work with you over these years.

Yours truly,
Ed Hemphill, BBA, PFP
