2 - The Principles Of Healthy AgingBy Barry LaValley
I am always amazed when I hear retirement plans that do not consider the possibility that health may become an issue. After all, we are getting older and there are things along the way that may affect how we live our retirement lives.
Retirement isn’t one long life stage. In fact, it is a multi-staged journey that will see many transitions both for you and your loved ones. While you can’t always plan ahead when it comes to health, there are some things that you can do to practice the principles of healthy aging.
Bottom-line is that your mental health will likely drive your physical health in retirement and you really have to pay attention to both. Someone once suggested that optimists live longer than pessimists. Maybe that’s because optimists expect to live longer anyway! In retirement, your attitude towards life will go a long way towards increasing your longevity and your overall happiness. Regardless of how you feel about your own health or the health of your spouse or partner if you are in a relationship you want to do as much as you can as quickly as you can—and then hope you can keep doing it for thirty or forty years! Never put anything off in retirement. |
